Congratulations to Monica Lundström, Uwe Klosa and Per Ybo, who defended the team bronze medal in the Swedish National Championships after a thrilling final, where the three top teams all scored 13 points.

New term — expanded practice schedule!

This term we expand the practice schedule from two to three days a week! On Fridays we practice at Johannesbäck 6.30 PM – 9.30 PM as usual, Tuseday night pratice in Flogsta is moved to Wednesdays 7.00 PM – 9.30 PM, and then we also have the opportunity to practice on Sundays 7.00 PM – 9.00 PM in Svettishuset by Svandammen! (Sunday practice will be announced separately, like with the summer practice.)

20 July 2014:

The Swedish national team made it to the quarter-finals in the World Cup in Paris, where they were paired against the huge favourites Japan. Sweden gave the Japanese an unexpectedly hard time, however, and forced three tie-breaks before the Japanese could claim the victory with 13-11.

Well fought!

The club will have a demonstration in the Botanical gardens on Sunday 15 June 12am-4pm in connection with the Japanese Family Day event. Come watch, and bring your family and friends!

Remember to join the final practice of the spring term on Friday 6 June! We will practice at Johannesbäck 3pm-6pm and then we will invade some local park for a picnic. Bring your own food and drink!

Summer practice starts on Tuesday 10 June! We will practice at Johannesbäck the usual hours. If the weather is agreeable, we will shoot in Gränbyparken or at Ekebyboda. Apply by mail to get text messages about where and when there will be practice.

Congratulations to our new kyu grade holders: Inger Fredriksson, Kari Jansson and Svante Ramstedt 3 kyu, and Klas Jönsson 2 kyu. The second event of the Swedish Cup 2014 was held simultaneously, with the usual suspects from Seikyukai taking home the medals.

The AGM of the Swedish Kendo Federation 2014 is also over. Knut Högvall got a renewed mandate to serve as the national kyudo representative for the coming year.

7 March 2014:

The AGM 2014 is over. The board members whose positions were up for re-election were all given the mandate for another two years—Knut Högvall as chairman, and Monica Lundström and Johan Andersson as board members. (The other members are Emma Angberg and Jörgen Falk.)

1 March 2014:

This year's first national kyu examination and the first ever Swedish Cup are over! Congratulations to our new kyu grade holders Anke Johannmeyer and Elisabeth Jansson 3 kyu, Philip Mattsson 2 kyu, and Johan Andersson 1 kyu! All the medals were taken by Seikyukai, however. Better luck next time!

The first national kyu grade examination of 2014 is approaching! As last time, we will be in Uppsala. This time, we will also inaugurate the Swedish Cup in kyudo! Click the image below for more information. The competition rules for the Swedish Cup can be found here.

The spiritual side of kyudo also needs sustenance. Therefore, the club is hosting a couple of events during the next couple of weeks with invited guest instructors/speakers:

First, Cecilia Waldenström, a zen buddhist nun and leader of a zen dojo here in Uppsala, will visit us on Friday 21 February to talk about zen and meditation.

Then, on Tuesday 4 March, we will be treated to a genuine Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) by Takako Westlind.

Everybody is welcome, including visitors from other clubs!
